Our Christmas Wishlist
Here it is! Our Christmas wishlist. This year, I’m focusing on gross motor play, advanced building, and imaginative play. See below for links and details about these awesome toys!
Duplo Airport - Max is ready for more advanced building materials. He loves Megablocks and I will keep them out, but Duplos are a little harder to put together and to break apart - great for fine motor (think early writing) development. Duplos (and Legos for those bigger kids) are great for imaginative play as well. Though they often come with themes or instructions, kids can really build anything they want!
Little Tikes Chairs - I think Max will really enjoy having chairs that are his own size outside. I’m also hoping these will keep him from climbing on our patio furniture…we’ll see.
KidKraft Kitchen - I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a kitchen for Max. Mostly, because our house is small and I wasn’t sure where we would put it. But, this one was on sale on Amazon last week (it’s still marked down as of 12/16), so I pulled the trigger. I’m really glad I did! It fits nicely in our breakfast room-turned-play space and Max loves it. Max is entering the imaginative play stage of development and kids loooove to play out real life. This kitchen will come in handy when I’m busy cooking and Max needs to be redirected away from the real kitchen stove. It can be our house and Max can play out his experiences or it can become a restaurant or coffee shop. So many possibilities. Great for kids 2+. If you don’t have the space, I recommend this Hape Tabletop Kitchen. Also, IKEA has awesome play pots, pans, and accessories. I took advantage of the fact that he doesn’t fully understand Santa Claus yet and set it out early. I’m glad I did, because this bad boy took me 3 hours (!!) to put together. That would not have been fun at 10:00pm after several glasses of wine on Christmas Eve. Granted, it wasn’t that fun at 2:00pm either, but it was better. I know this kitchen will get used for years to come.
Veterinarian Kit - Another great imaginative play must-have! Doctors tools are so great for kids to practice before or process after a doctor’s appointment. If your child has a hard time going to the doctor or dentist - play it out! If he needs ear tubes or another procedure - play it out!
Trampoline - A fun way to burn some energy! We’ll probably keep this outside but it would also be great inside for rainy days. The trampoline will help build Max’s gross motor muscles and boost gross motor development.
Melissa and Doug Cardboard Blocks - These blocks are the best! Great for building (kids love to build towers taller than they are) and can also be used for imaginative play. They make an awesome crashing sound when knocked over which kids love. The cons: you have to put them together and they are pretty big. If you want something smaller - I love these foam blocks, too.
Step2 Panda Climber - Max loves to play outside and climb, so this will be a perfect addition to our backyard!
