My Favorite Social-Emotional Books
I love books!! From my preschool teaching days to my play therapy days to now, my mom days, children’s books have been a huge part of my life. These are my favorite social-emotional books that I think every family needs in their home library. Reading books to your children does so many wonderful things for them. Reading builds vocabulary, helps them process emotions and experiences, and strengthens your connection, to name a few. If your child ever feels anxious - read a book! If you child every feels angry (everyone!) - read a book! If you want to teach your child social-emotional language - read a book! I could go on and on! Here are the links and a brief blurb about why I love each book:
The Way I Feel - This book is great to build emotional vocabulary. I recommend buying the hardcover because it has more pages and feelings.
Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster - I love this book. If you feel like your child might have a little anxiety or is reluctant to try new things, this book is for you!
On Monday When It Rained - Another book to help build vocabulary. I love it because it has real faces - the little boy’s expressions are awesome.
Waiting Is Not Easy - The title speaks for itself. Every child (and grown up?) needs this book. It’s Elephant and Piggie so it’s sure to be a hit.
The Good-Bye Book - If you are struggling with separation, get this book!
The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes - Another great option for anxiety. This book basically describes me as a child, so that’s probably why I love it so much.
The Rabbit Listened - Everyone needs this book. Here’s my full tribute to it.
When Sophie Gets Angry… - We all get angry and Sophie responds to a situation all children will face.
