Potty Jokes and Featured Toy Friday: Stinky Pig
Potty jokes are funny. The end.
Of course I have more to say, but that’s the truth. We cannot convince our children otherwise. We cannot compete with a good potty joke. The sooner you embrace this fact, the better. When we try to tell our kids not to say them, it only makes it more fun. We have to teach them that there’s a time and a place for that kind of humor. During playtime? Yes. At the dinner table? No.
When I was leading social skills play groups, I put up a sign that indicated when potty words were allowed and not allowed. I printed off a clip art potty, drew a red X through it, and posted it behind my head during our table times. It really helps to have a visual cue. I took the sign down for playtime and the kids could make potty jokes galore. They learned the boundary. And, when we allow the jokes, they lose their appeal. Win-win.
Now, on to my featured toy: Stinky Pig. This game is basically Hot Potato but with a pig that toots. It’s a great game to help set potty word and potty joke boundaries at home. “When we are playing, we can say potty words, make silly jokes, and laugh about toots. When the game is over, we are all done. We WILL play again…”
Stinky Pig can also help with:
Hand-eye Coordination - lots of catching and tossing
Impulse Control - you need to throw with control so no one gets hurt and the game doesn’t get off track
Frustration Tolerance - it’s hard to lose but the toot takes the edge off a bit. The game is fast-paced so there is lots of winning and losing.
